In 2007 the committee decided to pursue a goal of running the Union on principled business lines. This was achieved through, among other measures, the establishment of monthly committee meetings, structured financial administration and monthly financial reporting, and the employment of a business manager and a facilities manager. The result today and looking forward is a professionally managed and run OBU structured for maximum benefit to our "customers" (members, the schools and learners).

Our primary source of income is the BBP accounting for 48% of total income, with the balance coming from events such as the OB Dinner, Golf Days, Melodrama and Matric Membership subscriptions. Old Boys support for the BBP facility is therefore the key to sustaining our Union. We are currently examining alternatives for the refurbishment of the BBP, while at the same time making it an attractive venue and meeting point for a broader spectrum of the Wynberg family.

As in 2010 we will, this year, from WOB funds and from funding donated by Old Boys, be supporting at least 4 boys with full (school and hostel) and half scholarships totalling R98, 700. In addition, in recognition of the outstanding standard of our music department we have purchased a grand piano which will be presented to the school later this month. In 2010 we supported the various sporting codes of both schools to the extent of R51,678 while at the same time supporting WOB sports to the value of R18,370. In addition, we were instrumental in securing Lotto funding for the school last year.

We are frequently presented with requests for assistance from Old Boys, teachers, pupils and parents and we want to continue to be in the financial position where we can give consideration to these requests while at the same time preserving the financial integrity of the Union. To this extent we will be embarking on a fundraising program later this year targeted at our 7000 members and we know that this will be generously supported by Wynberg Men.
